Ya from scratch. Used a reference of course but it wasn't traced or anything. like the 24 on his jersey is off and the right leg is a little too thick etc.

thanks for the compliment. Means a lot. I think I'll do a dwayne wade one next

Yeah they're definitely good, especially the coloring. Seems like you've stepped up a whole lot since your previous stuff. Is this why you're never on anymore? Such a shame. =/

I think this was just a lucky surprise. I didn't notice myself doing anything different or special. If anything it's just letting the colors define the figure instead of the lines. I wish I could have them both cause I really love good line work.

I'll try to get on again at some point.

Use different line weights, it'll make it look more alive and 3D. Can't say anything about the coloring as I'm terrible at it.
